A Digital Archive of Australia’s Musical Past.

The Benvenuti Collection is a research-led digital archive dedicated to the preservation, study, and performance of historic orchestral music in Australia. This project is independent of, and not affiliated with, the State Library of Queensland or the National Library of Australia.

About this website

This website presents a research-led digital archive of the Benvenuti Collection: a historic working library of orchestral music used in Australia between approximately 1880 and 1930. The project focuses on the music itself — scores, parts, instrumentation, and hire records — with the aim of preserving, studying, and reviving repertoire that once formed a central part of Australia’s musical life.

The site is designed both for public exploration and for scholarly research, and prioritises clarity, provenance, and performance-based understanding of the material.

Credits & acknowledgements

The Benvenuti Collection project is curated and maintained by Craig Dabelstein (Maxime’s Music).

The project acknowledges the historical role of the Benvenuti family in shaping musical life in Queensland, and recognises the importance of institutional collections — including those held by the State Library of Queensland and the National Library of Australia — which preserve related programs, ephemera, and documentation that complement this working music library.

This website is built using WordPress and the Tainacan digital collections framework.
